The Vagabond

A hot day in summer! and who does not droll over an Icecream. I am a kid of 80s and my earliest memory is the arrival of mangoes and the home-made Ice-cream. My dad would be the one who would make all such delicacies. However, as I grew up the assistant cook me was relegated the task. The only commercial brands would be Kwality or Verka. And I would love the Butterscotch Ice cream from Kwality and the kulfi from verka. Does anyone remember Cassatta. A slice of cake with icecream on the top!!

I did MD from Mumbai and discovered Naturals-The icecream of juhu scheme and it is still my most favourite. I never miss the chance to eat it when i am there.

With globalisation, the children these days are spoiled for choices. Many international brands like Baskin Robbins, London – Diary, Ben & Jerry are available almost everywhere. However, I do like the kulfi like flavour which Naturals has. When i moved to Dubai, which incidently has branches of many famous Mumbai restaurants i hoped to find Naturals. I did not find one. But found another kulfi brand. Dubai has its own Indianised kulfi brand – Kulfilicious and there flavours are yummy. I am grateful for Icecreams. They are my comfort food.

Last few years have seen Internet transform the world. You can attend classes from world class teachers sitting anywhere. Infact, if it was not for Internet, I don’t know how I would have done Frcpath. Usually, people would go to UK and do an observorship or a course to understand UK system. Fortunately, when I started preparing covid shut down the world and I had to rely on online classes. These online classes changed everything for me.

Internet has changed the world for education, communication and entertainment. If it was not for video-calling, I would have not managed to stay alone. Isn’t it a boon to be able to see the faces and talk to your loved ones. I remember my hostel days when calling long distance would be very costly. I used to call home once a week from a pay phone and would stand in line after 9pm when STD rates would drop to 50%. Sometimes, the call would not get through and it would take many tries to get connected. Now with the advent of WiFi calling, not only it is cheaper, but talking face to face makes it all the more comfortable. We can now stay in touch with friends and family, not just via calls, but by use of social media like what’s app, Facebook and Instagram. All of this has been possible due to internet boom. I am grateful for the internet and all the technological advances which let us be close to those who are away.
