Book Blurb : In the future, The State is ruled by the socially reformist Central Party Alliance. Still grieving for his dead wife and children, Danny tracks down the assassin, an ex-military sniper called Gabriella, only to discover she may not be the real villain. The secret behind the murder of one politician may bring down the entire ruling Party, and Danny soon learns those in power will go to any lengths to protect The State. My review : A justified state is a debut novel of Blogger and author Iain Kelly. An action packed, fast paced thriller which pumps you up with adrenaline till you reach the last page where it ends abruptly.
The author has rightly projected a future where driving cars is against the law, and people actually just sleep when they go to work, in the autopilot cars. Robots have replaced the workforce and where work is required, most of it can be done from the comfort of homes via touchscreen. All the diseases have been conquered via gene therapy. And everyone has a right to his cube which are fully robotic homes.
The governments have finally realized the effects of pollution so everything runs on electricity, and there are large green forests which are preserved. Animals are no more killed, and you have synthetic meat and vitamin tablets ! One might say what a luxury ! But one thing which no one has been still able to conquer is the inherent human greed & misuse of power.
A high profile parliamentarian gets murdered and so comes in Detective Sampson. He is dealing with his own personal demons, but soon finds that there’s more to the eye then we can see. Along with his two colleagues, he discovers the hidden secrets of power and what people in power can do to keep the secret buried.
I finished the book within just 1 day, couldn’t keep it down. The narrative was gripping and kept me hooked till last. The author has a great imagination and rightly brings in the kind of state which we all fear. When robots would take all our jobs!!
The ending was abrupt and I would have liked to know what happens to Gabriella! Guess will have to wait for the sequel.
It wouldn’t be wrong if I compare this one to Dan Brown’s novels. I believe a sequel( The state of denial ) is already in making, and can’t wait to read that one too!!
Brilliant debut by Iain Kelly!!
